SEO for physical therapists

People do not search for physical therapy. They search for the thing that hurts. Lower back pain, frozen shoulder, ACL recovery, plantar fasciitis, and then near me. A clinic with a page about the condition, what treatment looks like and how long it usually takes will be found for all of them; a clinic with a page called Our Services will not.

Peak Endurance, a sports clinic, Sep 2023 to May 2024, from 482,378 impressions. Their Search Console.

It is also a market where the map pack does most of the work, because almost every search carries local intent. A profile with the right categories, the conditions listed as services and reviews from this month will out-perform a better-known clinic that set theirs up once.

Searches we build for, with the place name your customers use:

  • physical therapy near me
  • lower back pain treatment [city]
  • sports injury clinic [neighborhood]
  • physio for frozen shoulder

What stops physical therapists getting enquiries

Three problems we find on nearly every physical therapist website we audit, and what we do about each.

  1. Services listed instead of conditions explained

Manual therapy and dry needling are what you do. Back pain and a torn rotator cuff are what people search. A page per condition, naming the treatment inside it, is what connects the two.

  2. No therapist pages

Patients search a therapist by name after a referral or a recommendation. Each therapist needs a page, and the clinic profile needs to list them.

  3. Insurance and referral questions unanswered

Whether you take their cover and whether they need a referral are the two things that decide the call. Most clinic sites answer neither, and the patient rings the one that does.

  4. A profile without the conditions

Google Business Profile services can name the conditions you treat, not just Physical Therapy. Almost no clinic fills that in, and it is one of the cheapest map pack gains available.

  • A shoulder joint from the front: the socket, the collarbone and the head of the arm bone, with the arm drawn again at two raised positions
  • A range of motion diagram: a hinged linkage drawn at three swept positions, with an arc struck between each one

What you get each month

  • A condition page each month: back pain, shoulder, knee, post-surgical, sports injury
  • A page for each therapist, with their specialism
  • Insurance, referral and first-appointment questions answered plainly
  • Google Business Profile: conditions as services, hours, weekly posts, reviews replied to
  • Area pages where the catchment genuinely reaches
  • Monthly Search Console report by condition

How pricing works

What sets the size of the month is how many conditions you want pages for and whether you have one location or several. The profile work in the first quarter is a smaller month than the condition page programme that follows it. We scope the work on a call and send a written quote before anything starts. The SEO services page explains what a month covers and who does it.

Results from real clients

Every number below is from the client’s own Google Search Console, for the period shown. Impressions are how often the site appeared; clicks are people who arrived. What each visit is worth is your sales process, not ours, so these are the visits we can prove rather than a conversion figure we cannot.

Questions physical therapists ask us

Should we write about conditions or treatments?

Conditions, and name the treatments inside them. Patients search the problem, not the technique, and a page organised the other way round matches nothing they type.

Can we mention outcomes?

Only what you can support. Typical recovery ranges from published guidance are fine and useful; invented success rates are not, and we will not write them.

Does the map pack matter more than the website?

For most of these searches, yes, and it usually moves faster. Both get worked on and the profile comes first.

We are a cash-pay clinic. Is that different?

The pages are the same and the questions are different. What it costs, why it is not billed through insurance and what that buys need answering on the page rather than on the phone.
