SEO ROI calculator

What a set of searches is worth in enquiries, customers and revenue, month by month over a year, from your own figures. Visits are not a result, so the calculation does not stop there. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

The searches

Add up the monthly volume of the searches you are targeting. A keyword tool gives the figures; your Search Console shows the ones you already appear for.

Your business

A call, a form, a booking. Count last month's enquiries and divide by the visits to the pages that produced them.

The investment

Whatever you have in mind, with anyone. Leave it empty and the page shows the return without the ratio.

Nothing on this form is submitted anywhere. The figures update as you type.

How the calculation works, and where it is wrong

Searches are multiplied by the share that click through, which gives visits. Visits are multiplied by your enquiry rate, enquiries by your close rate, and customers by what a customer is worth in the first year. That is the monthly figure at full rate. The twelve-month view ramps up to it over the months you choose, because pages do not rank the day they are published, and it sets the result beside what you plan to spend.

Every step is a simplification. The click share for a search depends on the result page: a search with a map pack, an AI answer and four adverts above the organic results leaves less for position one than the preset says. Enquiry rates vary by page as much as by business. Customer value ignores repeat work and referrals, which is where most of the long-term return lives. Treat the output as the shape of the answer, then replace each input with a measured figure as soon as you have one.

The one thing it will not do is tell you a ranking is a result. If the enquiry rate is zero, the revenue is zero however high the page sits, and that is the calculation doing its job.

If the numbers say it is worth it

The searches and the conversion figures decide whether SEO is worth doing for a business, and the three questions that decide it are written out separately. What the work looks like month by month is on the SEO services page, and how long it takes is its own answer. The report template is how the same figures get tracked once the work has started.

Questions about the calculator

Where do the click-share figures come from?

They are typical bands: the top organic result takes somewhere around a quarter to a third of clicks on most searches, positions two and three together take a similar share, and it falls away quickly below that. The map pack varies by category. They are starting points to edit, and your own Search Console shows the real figure for any search you already appear for.

What conversion rate should I use?

Your own. Count the enquiries you received in a month and divide by the visits to the pages that produced them; Search Console gives the visits and your inbox and phone log give the enquiries. For a local service business the figure from search is often a few percent; for a considered purchase it is lower. A guess is fine to start, and a measured figure replaces it after a month.

Why does the result ramp up over months instead of appearing at once?

Because that is how it happens. Profile and citation work shows in weeks; pages written for the searches people make take a season to rank against established competitors; competitive terms take longer. The ramp setting is how long until the pages are earning at full rate, and the cumulative chart shows when the return passes the spend.

Is this a quote?

No. The spend field is yours to fill in with whatever you plan to spend, with us or with anyone. We scope work on a call and send a written quote for the specific business; the calculator only tells you whether the searches you have in mind are worth pursuing at all.

Is anything I type here sent anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser. There is no form submission, no analytics event and no network request of any kind, which you can confirm in your browser’s network tab.
