Local SEO matters more in the UK than in most markets, and for a specific reason: the directories. Checkatrade, Yell and their equivalents hold a great deal of first-page space for commercial terms, which pushes real businesses below the fold. The map pack is the one place they cannot follow you, which makes it disproportionately valuable here.
The second thing is how UK buyers search. They attach a town, and often a postcode area, to almost every service query. A business with one page for the whole county is competing with pages written about each town in it, and losing to all of them.
How the work is done
The profile is the product
Categories decide which searches you are eligible for at all, and most profiles have one when they could have five. Services, attributes, opening hours and the question-and-answer section are all ranking inputs and all sit empty on most profiles. This is the first thing we work through and it is the part that moves fastest.
A page for each place you actually serve
One page listing twelve towns in a footer ranks for none of them. A page per area you genuinely send somebody to, written about that area, ranks for each. The test is whether you would take the job: pages for places you cannot serve cost more than they earn and they read as false to a buyer.
Citations, which are boring and still matter
Your name, address and phone number have to match everywhere they appear. They usually do not, because a business moves, changes a number, or gets listed by somebody else with the old details. Cleaning that up is unglamorous and it is one of the few things that reliably moves a stubborn map ranking.
Reviews, asked for properly
Volume, recency and whether you reply all feed the ranking, and all three are within your control. We set up the asking so it happens without anybody remembering, and the replies get written.
What is different about search in the UK
Directories hold the first page
For many trade and service terms the top results are aggregators. Two routes past them: the map pack, and pages specific enough that a directory listing cannot answer the question.
Town and postcode, not region
Buyers search by town. A page covering a whole county competes with pages written about each town in it, and loses to all of them.
British English, properly
Spelling, the word for the trade and the way an address is written all signal whether a page was written for this market or translated into it.
Searches in the UK run on google.co.uk, which returns a
different result set to google.com. Work is checked against the one your customers
actually use.

How the engagement works
There is no package to pick from. What the site needs is decided on a call and written
down before any work starts, because a business with one location and a clean site needs
a different month to an agency reselling to twelve clients.
01
A call, before anything is quoted
Thirty minutes on what you sell, where you sell it, and what the site looks like today. No scope is written before that conversation, because the right work depends on all three.
02
A written scope and quote
What will be done, in what order, and what it costs, in writing. Nothing starts until you have agreed to it.
03
Month to month from there
The work runs monthly and the scope changes as the site does. Cancel with 30 days’ notice.
True of every engagement
Search Console and Analytics set up in your name, so the data is yours
No lock-in: month to month, cancel with 30 days’ notice
Profile work often shows within four to eight weeks because so few competitors maintain theirs. Area pages take three to six months. Citation clean-up shows up slowly and mostly by removing a ceiling rather than by lifting you.
Do I need a page for every town near me?
No, and it is the commonest way this goes wrong. A page for a place you would not actually travel to is a page that earns nothing and makes the rest of the site look padded. Pages follow where you genuinely send someone.
Can you fix a profile that is suspended?
Usually, and the first step is finding out why, which is often a category or an address problem rather than anything you did. It is handled case by case and we will tell you honestly if it looks unlikely.
We have several locations. Is that different?
Yes. Each location needs its own profile and its own page, and the failure mode is one page and one profile trying to cover all of them.
How do you get past Checkatrade and Yell?
You do not out-rank them on their own terms cheaply. You take the map pack, which they cannot enter, and you write pages specific enough that a directory listing is not a substitute for them.
Do you write in British English?
Yes, and it matters more than it sounds. A page reading "optimize your tire center" tells a UK reader immediately that nobody involved is local to them.
What comes first?
A free written read of the site within two working days, then a call, then a written quote. Nothing starts before you have that in writing.
