SEO for home services businesses

Home services are bought from the map pack. Someone searches a trade and a neighborhood, sees three businesses with reviews and phone numbers, and calls one. Everything we do for trades is aimed at those three spots and at the job-type searches underneath them.

Peak Endurance, a sports clinic, Sep 2023 to May 2024, from 482,378 impressions. Their Search Console.

The method is the same across trades: a page per job type with your own photos and a price range, a Google Business Profile that is posted to every week, citations that agree on one address, and links from suppliers and local sites. What changes per trade is the list of jobs and the season.

Searches we build for, with the place name your customers use:

  • [trade] near me
  • [job type] [neighborhood]
  • [job type] cost [city]
  • emergency [trade] [neighborhood]

Who this is for

Businesses with one address, a service area and a phone that should ring more. The three problems below are the common ones in this group; fixing them is where the first three months go.

  1. All services on one page

The single most common problem on trade websites. Google ranks a page for one thing; one page for ten jobs ranks for none.

  2. A profile that is never posted to

The map pack is decided mostly by the profile: categories, services, photos, posting and review recency. Most trades set it up once and never return.

  3. Service area with no proof

Listing 40 neighborhoods in the footer does nothing. Pages for the neighborhoods where the jobs are, with real jobs described, do.

  • A plumber lying on their back under a kitchen sink with a wrench on the trap, the cupboard doors open and a torch propped to light the space
  • A work van on a suburban driveway with its side door open, a tradesperson lifting out a toolbag, a step ladder strapped to the roof rack

How we bring these businesses work

  • One job-type or neighborhood page each month, written from your photos and a short call
  • Google Business Profile: categories, services with from-prices, weekly photos, reviews replied to
  • Citations on trade directories and local listings, license numbers included
  • Technical fixes: click-to-call above the fold, quote form, speed, schema for the business and service area
  • Links from suppliers, local business sites and trade publications
  • Monthly Search Console report by job type and neighborhood

Want to do it yourself first?

We have written the whole method out, for home services businesses specifically, in the order it pays to do it. It is free, it is not a lead magnet, and there is nothing to fill in to read it. Most businesses get real movement from the first half of it on their own.

Where we do this

The method is the same everywhere; what people search for and where the results come from are not. Each market has its own page, and so do the cities where home services businesses search for this most.

How we work

Sole traders and small crews start small. It grows when the page programme begins, or straight away when you compete across a capital city. We scope the work on a call and send a written quote before anything starts. The SEO services page explains what a month covers and who does it.

Questions home services businesses ask us

Which trades do you work with?

Electricians, roofers, general contractors and builders, cleaning companies and auto repair have their own pages below. Plumbers, HVAC, landscapers, painters, pest control and similar trades follow the same method; ask through the form.

How much of the work is on our side?

Job photos and a sentence about each one. A five-minute call a month. Approvals by email. Everything else is ours.

How long until the phone rings more?

Profile and citation work shows within four to eight weeks. Job-type pages take three to six months against established competitors.

Do you run Google Ads as well?

No. We build the pages and the profile that make ads cheaper, and we can recommend someone to run them.
