Google Business Profile reinstatement

A suspended profile is off the map, and with it the calls that came from the map. This is how the appeal works, what Google asks you to send, and what to do if the answer is no. Free to read, and nothing here is held back to make you contact us.

Short answer: Google Business Profile reinstatement means filing one appeal in Google's appeals tool, with evidence such as the business registration, a license or a utility bill that shows the real business name and address. Google gives no turnaround time and emails its decision.

The short version

Reinstatement means appealing in Google’s appeals tool, once, with evidence that the business is real and that its name and address match the profile. Work out why it was suspended first, fix that, attach the paperwork Google lists, and submit. Google makes the decision and sends it by email.

The reinstatement appeal, step by step

  1. 1

    Check what was actually actioned

Google separates a suspended profile from a restricted account. If the account is restricted, Google says to appeal on the My accounts page first, and the profile suspension can be appealed once that restriction is lifted. Read the email Google sent and confirm which one it names.

  2. 2

Find the cause before you write anything

Google says it may suspend or disable profiles that do not follow its guidelines, so the cause is a guideline the profile or the business is breaking. Our guide to a suspended profile lists the causes we see most often, with the business name and the address at the top.

  3. 3

Fix what is wrong on the listing, or on the business paperwork

If the name on the profile is not the registered name, correct it. If the address is wrong, correct it. Google’s advice is to check that the business name and address on your evidence match the profile you are appealing for, so the two have to agree before you file.

  4. 4

    Gather the evidence Google lists

Official business registration, a business license, tax certificates, and utility bills for the business such as electricity, phone, water or internet. Use whichever of these show the real business name and address.

  5. 5

Open the appeals tool and choose the decision

In the Google Business Profile appeals tool, pick the profile and the decision you are appealing. Attach the evidence and write a short explanation of what the business is and what has been corrected.

  6. 6

Confirm the evidence is attached, then submit

The tool asks you to tick a box confirming that everything you wanted to attach is attached. Appeals can only be submitted once, so this is the step to check twice.

  7. 7

    Wait for the email

Google says it reviews the appeal and sends the decision by email. It does not publish a turnaround time. The tool shows a status for the appeal: Submitted, Approved, Not Approved, Can’t be appealed or Eligible for appeal.

If the appeal is denied

Google says appeals can only be submitted once, and that if a reinstatement request is denied it may be able to do an additional review. That review is requested through a separate Google form, and it is not a second chance to say the same thing. Read the reason in the decision email, work out what it shows the first appeal missed, and put that right before anything else is sent.

Do not create a new profile for the same business in the meantime. Google tells businesses not to.

Ten or more locations

Google has a bulk route for ten or more suspended locations. The tool asks whether you are requesting bulk reinstatement and takes a spreadsheet of profile IDs. The business name and address on each document have to match your registration exactly, so a multi-location appeal starts with a clean list of every location’s legal name and address.

What Google says about appeals

  • Google says it “may suspend or disable Business Profiles that don’t follow our guidelines”, and that an account may be restricted when a policy is violated. A restriction suspends the profiles you manage and stops you creating or claiming others.

  • The route is the appeals tool: “If you believe your profile should be reinstated, you can submit an appeal.” You choose the profile and the decision, can attach evidence and an explanation, and confirm the evidence is attached before submitting.

  • Google’s list of evidence that can help is official business registration, a business license, tax certificates and business utility bills. It advises checking that the business name and address match the profile you are appealing for.

  • “Appeals can only be submitted once.” If the request is denied, Google says it “may be able to do an additional review”, and links to a separate form for that.

  • “Do not create a new Business Profile for the same business.”

  • For ten or more suspended locations, the tool asks whether you are requesting bulk reinstatement and takes a spreadsheet of profile IDs. The name and address on each document must exactly match your registration.

What we can do, and what we cannot

We can check the listing against Google’s guidelines, find the likely cause, correct what is wrong, collect the evidence in the form Google asks for, and write the explanation for the appeal. We cannot decide the outcome or speed it up. We will tell you what we think of the evidence before you file.

Questions about reinstatement

How do I get my Google Business Profile reinstated?

You file an appeal in Google’s Business Profile appeals tool. Choose the suspended profile, attach evidence such as the business registration, a business license, tax certificates or a utility bill in the business name, explain what the business is and what has been corrected, and submit. Google reviews it and sends the decision by email.

How long does Google Business Profile reinstatement take?

Google’s help page does not give a turnaround time. It says it will review the appeal and email the decision. The status in the appeals tool shows where the appeal stands.

Can I appeal a suspension more than once?

Google says appeals can only be submitted once. If a request is denied, Google says it may be able to do an additional review through a separate form. That is why the first appeal should carry the right evidence for the right reason.

What does Not Approved mean in the appeals tool?

It means Google reviewed the appeal and did not reinstate the profile. The other statuses the tool shows are Submitted, Approved, Can’t be appealed and Eligible for appeal. After a denial, Google says an additional review may be possible.

What evidence should I attach to an appeal?

Google lists official business registration, a business license, tax certificates and utility bills for the business. The business name and address on each should match the profile you are appealing for.

Should I create a new profile while I wait?

No. Google says not to create a new Business Profile for the same business.

Is there an email address or form for a reinstatement request?

Google’s help page points to the appeals tool, and Google sends the decision by email. It does not list an address for filing the appeal by email.

Can you guarantee my profile will be reinstated?

No. Google decides every appeal. What we can do is check the listing and the paperwork against Google’s guidelines, fix what is wrong, put the right evidence together, and write the explanation so the first appeal argues the right point.
